Ask HN: Can an application requiring session affinity be highly available?
Do you consider an application that requires session affinity (sticky sessions) when using a load balancer to be "highly available"? I see the requirement to use session affinity as disqualifying an application from being considered highly available. The use of session affinity means that if one of the instances of the application crashes, then all users attached to that instance have, in essence, crashed. I would love to hear other opinions about this.
Thanks.
