Update 2026/01/26: Klipy Responded!
…by deleting their old Reddit comments, hundreds of GIFs, and even a four-month-old LinkedIn post. I must’ve scared the shit out of them.
All the links in this article already used archive services though, so this won’t affect your reading experience. However, I’ve gone through and annotated what they’ve deleted. Links on “deleted” text lead to the live versions of pages I discuss so you can compare for yourself.
Since Tenor is shutting down their API on June 30, 2026, and Giphy is paid for enterprise use, a lot of companies are eyeing the underdog known as Klipy as a potential new GIF provider. I wrote a long, unorganized blog post listing a bunch of evidence for why I think they are a shady company, which is still preserved in full at the end of this. However, I think it’d be more digestible if I took a few paragraphs here to highlight some good examples of the issues I have.
If you scroll down on Klipy’s LinkedIn page, you’ll see a deleted post by Givi Beridze showing a screenshot of a Reddit notification. The comment in the notification can be found under this post which is now deleted, but it seems obvious that u/viceplayer28 is the OP based on deleted comments. Taking that and other comments into account, I think it’s safe to conclude that u/viceplayer28 is owned by Givi Beridze, the co-founder and CEO of Klipy.
So then, why can we find a recent comment (deleted) from the account that is phrased as if he doesn’t know shit about Klipy?
If I swap the url, will all the features continue to work? Do you support everything Tenor has?
Shouldn’t you know, Givi? You own the damn site!
I’ve identified eight Reddit accounts I believe are associated with Klipy. One of the more active accounts is u/Realistic_Win_555, who similarly has posts claiming to be building a “little tool” called Klipy (deleted) only to need a Giphy alternative (deleted) months later. You’ll also see u/viceplayer28 and u/iambatman28 in the comments on the latter post.
Even if against some policy, I’m not inherently opposed to the idea of scraping Tenor to rebuild its GIF library. The API going down is undoubtedly going to be a big loss and I’ll be bummed by its passing. However, when it’s obvious you’re scraping Tenor, it doesn’t look good when u/iambatman28 leaves comments stating otherwise (deleted).
We didn’t steal anything, I’m telling you 100% of our content is fully legal, DMCA compliant and user generated. If you see any content that is also on Tenor, it means it is an user upload (maybe the same user), KLIPY has over 100m active users today.
Most GIFs uploaded to Klipy have no attribution under them. If you view page source or use their mobile app, you’ll see that the GIFs in question are purportedly uploaded by Klipy.
You may also notice how all the GIFs you click have AI-generated tags and descriptions. So how come when I upload my awesome GIF, there’s no option to hide the fact that I’m the one who published it? Why aren’t there AI-generated tags and a description? It seems to me like they’re only applying these to GIFs bulk imported from Tenor.
Oh yeah, the generative AI. If you’re more iffy about that stuff, you’ll probably find their AI features not very palatable. On the bright side, they removed the chance to have your profile picture be Donald Trump, but it’s weird as hell that that was a thing in the first place.
Their about page self-describes as “a team of innovators and rule-breakers”. At least they’re self-aware, I guess.

Astroturfing
There are several Reddit accounts whose activity I believe to be associated with Klipy employees. All of these accounts have their comment history turned off on Reddit, but you can still find what they’ve posted by Googling e.g. "viceplayer28" site:reddit.com. All outbound social media links point to archive sites to prevent comment deletion. The accounts frequently interact with each other, and since I didn’t want a lot of repetition, you’ll find some references to an account under the documentation for another account. Ctrl-F is your friend.

Hey folks - I’m the co-founder of https:// klipy.com our company is led by Ex-Tenor/Google team - founders, content team, developers etc. We’re replacing Tenor in most biggest apps and are excited to potentially enable you to use our GIFs as well.
We’ve also built 10 minute migration guide from Tenor to KLIPY that only requires base URL swap https:// klipy.com/migrate
P.S. DM me if anyone wants us to migrate their Tenor account and we’ll provide the credentials
Notable reply from u/TheAnswerIsAQuestion:
Signed up for an account by email. KLIPY made my user profile picture a photo of Trump and gave me no option to change it anywhere so thanks but no thanks, I deactivated. Why would you do that for a gif site?
Rather than being misinformation, the above is confirmed by u/viceplayer28:
my apologies, we’re working on that! Those were memes long time ago when we did it.
…oooookay. If you say so.

The above is in response to a post by u/iambatman28 promoting Klipy as a drop-in replacement for Tenor. It’s odd that the question is being asked as if u/viceplayer28 is a developer looking to integrate Klipy rather than a Klipy employee.
Old post in r/FlutterDev doesn’t state that he is an employee, but still pushes Klipy pretty hard.

Recent comment in r/discordapp claiming to be a developer of Klipy. Just a bunch of copy-paste I guess.

Old comment in r/androiddev (deleted) under a deleted post by u/championdobby. Also has a deleted reply from u/viceplayer28 where he claims he is a Klipy employee.
Definitely +1 to KLIPY’s GIF API, it’s free and they have monetization, which is optional.
Recent post in r/SideProject where he is upfront about his role in owning Klipy. He also (deleted) replied this to someone stating that Klipy contains stolen content. Also claims the person he’s replying to is a Giphy employee.
GIPHY folks are trying to trash talk? 100% of our content is user generated and legal. You keep rising prices for developers $12k, $50k, $500k etc for API access? lol.

I don’t know, Just-Average3995. Why don’t you tell us? You posted to r/klipycom 10 months ago, after all! Teehee.
Recent comment in r/appdev (dude the ENTIRE comment section is gone. This implicates three accounts I didn’t cover in this blog post) in reply to a post by a now-suspended account advertising Klipy. u/Salimereba is also in the replies.
Does this support Tenor v2 endpoints like /v2/search, /v2/featured, /v2/autocomplete, /v2/categories?

A lot lot lot of posts in r/klipycom (deleted), ranging from 3 months to 1 year ago. A shit ton of posts on various subreddits too just linking Klipy gifs. I don’t care to archive them all, but you get the idea.

Old post to r/automation (deleted), claiming that Klipy is a “little tool” they’ve been “building in the background. Bold done by the LLM that wrote this post, not me.
Hey guys, I’ve been playing around with some quirky but useful Zapier workflows involving GIFs triggered by keywords, schedules, or activity—just for fun (and a little marketing flair).
A few I’ve been testing:
- Post GIFs to Slack when keywords like “win” or “coffee” are mentioned ☕
- Auto-send a random GIF via SMS every morning (start the day right?)
- Celebrate PayPal sales with a GIF delivered straight to your inbox
- Post welcome GIFs to Basecamp or Microsoft Teams when new members join
They’re powered by a little tool I’ve been building in the background (called Klipy), and I’d love to hear what you think if you try one out—or if you have other fun/funky ideas I could build.
Totally open to thoughts, feedback, or ways to make these more useful.
Month-old post to r/indiadevelopers (deleted) claiming they use the Giphy API and are looking to switch to something else. Deleted replies from u/iambatman28 and u/viceplayer28 talking about how much everyone hates Giphy and to check out Klipy.
Hey folks - we are currently on the Giphy GIF API free tier but we are hitting the rate limits during peak traffic. Their sales team is quoting enterprise numbers that are way out of our seed-stage budget. For those building social apps in India, what API are you using for rich media/stickers that handles high concurrency without the enterprise price tag? We just need standard search and trending endpoints.

Scraping from Tenor
I’ve seen a lot of mixed opinions regarding if it’s okay for Klipy to scrape Tenor, or if anybody gives a fuck. I guess it’s kind of funny that they’re doing it, and I might not even be opposed to turning a blind eye to it if it meant Tenor’s GIF library lived on in an API. But they don’t have to lie about it!
We didn’t steal anything, I’m telling you 100% of our content is fully legal, DMCA compliant and user generated. — u/iambatman28, deleted
There’s a couple ways you could approach this. I don’t know if any could 100% convince you, but combined they seem suspicious to me, so I’ll just go through them one-by-one.
Tenor-specific references in GIFs
In case the text is hard to read, both deleted GIFs on the right specifically mention an “Omori Tenor” community (“hi im new to the omori tenor community” / “hello omori tenor community”). You’ll find several GIFs mentioning Tenor if you search the term up, but none for Klipy if you search Klipy. Are you telling me people post this much more about Tenor than Klipy on Klipy?

Tags/resolution overlap with a later upload date
Since I'm using The Wayback Machine for the GIFs here the (i) button that contains the date uploaded doesn't work. To fully verify my claims...
If the URLs are still live, you can just strip the archive.org from the front of them. If they're dead, add id_ after the number in the archive.org portion of the URL, view page source, and Ctrl-F for dateCreated.

You can find a bunch of GIFs like this. Frequently the Klipy gifs have more tags, but never less. I have to imagine they’re AI-generated like the GIF descriptions.
No Uploaders
Most GIFs on Klipy do not have attribution. This might make you think they’re just hiding it, but nope! Some GIFs actually have them. I have uploaded a GIF on my own and I see no way to “mark as anonymous” or to hide that I was the one who uploaded it.
Go to Klipy’s homepage and click on any GIF. Notice how there’s no attribution. Right click and select “View Page Source”. If you Ctrl-F author, you’ll see that it’s unknown. If you go to the last occurrence of the term, you’ll see a different author attribute associated with the GIF has a username value of klipy. Whatever, man.
Heresay
Here’s the Mastodon post that made me spend a couple days looking into this in the first place.
Okay I’m tired of writing this you get the idea. Either I’ve convinced you that this company is weird, or I will be unable to with more evidence.
