America PAC, a pro-Trump Super PAC financed primarily by Elon Musk to transfer massive funding to Donald Trump's presidential campaign in 2024, has published a website called VoteSafe.org that falsely claims to help people register to vote ahead of the midterm election in November. The site automatically grabs data and personal information from visitors and does not actually register anyone to vote.
America PAC has spent over $180,000 in marketing just this week to push voters to its fake registration site.
The site is designed to resemble the actual voter registration site Vote.org, which provides legitimate voter registration and information services, and is run by a registered nonpartisan, non-profit organization. Vote.org does not track any personal information, and only requires users to submit their email and mailing address.

Visitors to the site automatically transmit to Musk their: full name, birthday, home address, email address, cellphone number, IP address, browser, operating system, screen size and language of device, location, district, voter registration status, every link they click on, and every web page they visit.

The site includes a lengthy privacy disclaimer page which informs users their personal data may be given to third parties for "targeted marketing purposes," and that contact information may be shared with "business partners."
What is even more alarming is that VoteSafe.org is also tracking "inferences" that can be made about users based on their personal information. Those include, "a profile relating to your preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, intelligence, abilities and aptitude." Inferences are also available to be shared with their business partners.

Musk has done this before. During the 2024 election, Musk spent more than $800,000 on digital advertisements to push voter registration in battleground states. Users reported that they were never registered to vote after signing up on Musk's site.
