Balloons went up, confetti came down and the North Highschool Band marched to the festive opening of Oakwood. Oakwood Mall. Oakwood Mall. Eau Claire’s nest and largest mall.
The new mall has fifty stores, many of them local businesses, large department stores
The grand opening has brought buyers to spend

Welcome to the exciting world of production. Now I say production because that’s exactly what you’ll be doing. Producing video programs to be watched on your own television. Now, to get off to the best possible start, let’s just listen.

As you can see, this happy scene originally contained tension. However, with special production techniques we can edit this tension

Using these various techniques in the correct proportions, any video memory you want can be created
The challenge to you, the video editor, is to choose what you want to remember

January 8th, 1991 started just like any day for Uniroyal’s first shift employees. Inside the aging walls, workers were cranking out tires, nothing was different. Oh how life would change in the next few hours
It has been a fixture in Eau Claire for over 75 years, providing livelihoods to generations of workers
It uh, it hits pretty hard. It’s like uh, part of you, almost like a death. I appreciate the days and years that we’ve had. I hate to see it come to an end.
Good evening, today teh shocking announcement that Eau Claire’s largest private employer, the Uniroyal tire plant, is shutting down.
We’re now almost complete

Earlier in the morning Union President Daryll Wekken had the unenviable task of talking to those he’s represented for years.
Well, um, I think in my position I have to go up there and try to tell the people that there is a tomorrow. We’re gonna get up in the morning. And we will do whatever we can.

There some optimism, there is some optimism here
Now see this in your mind
The Eau Claire, the Chippewa Valley is changing identity
As an accomplished fact
It’s a transition the community has made several times in its history and its a transition I think we’re up for right now
Like the end of the lumber era the community can recover
Our concern now is where do we go from here?
