An Arizona man says his story is reason why you should never give up hope.
Paul Guilbeault's dog, Damian, has been missing since 2017, but a phone call a few weeks ago changed both of their lives.
The phone call was from an unlisted number that Paul says he was sure was a scammer. But it wasn't a scammer, it was from the American Kennel Club saying someone had found his lost dog Damian in Oklahoma.
Paul and Damian are now back together, reunited after eight years apart.
But let's go back to the beginning and how this all happened.
Paul says in 2017, he and his family were moving from Massachusetts to Arizona, and during the cross-country trip, they made a pit stop in Oklahoma.
Paul was walking Damian outside when Damian got off his leash and ran away, so fast that Paul could not catch him.
They searched everywhere for him and posted flyers but Damian was missing.
Paul says he never gave up hope that one day they would be together again, but he says he didn't think it would ever really happen.
"Even in the darkest moments, you just never give up hope," he said.
Donna Bently is the one who found Damian in Oklahoma. She was driving along when she says she almost hit him with her car. Donna brought him home and her brother Rick took Damian to the vet and asked the vet to scan him for a microchip.
Paul's info came up and they were able to reach out to him to let him know Damian had been found.
When they got the call, Paul and his husband were actually driving out to LA with supplies for survivors of the wildfires out there, but they changed course and drove 14 hours to Oklahoma City to reunite with Damian.
Paul and Damian are now back home in Arizona making up for lost time together.
