BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill has filed a child protection lawsuit against Roblox, the top gaming site for children and teens, accusing the platform of enabling sexual exploitation and failing to safeguard minors from predators.

The lawsuit claims Roblox has facilitated the distribution of child sexual abuse material, failed to implement basic safety controls, and withheld warnings from parents and young users about the platform’s risks.

“Roblox created, curated and perpetuated an online environment where child sex predators thrive, unite, hunt and victimize kids,” Murrill said.

Roblox, launched in 2006, has more than 380 million monthly users, with more than half of its players between the ages of 9 and 16, according to Murrill.

While Roblox offers thousands of games marketed as kid-friendly, the lawsuit cites others that allegedly feature explicit content, including games named “Escape to Epstein Island”, “Survive Diddy” and “Public Bathroom Simulator Vibe.” Investigators say some of these experiences contain simulated sexual activity, including alleged depictions of child gang rape.

“I will not stand by and watch this company grow exponentially from exploiting children and facilitating child sexual abuse for profit,” Murrill said.

Murrill noted that multiple cases in the state have been linked to the platform.

In July, deputies in Livingston Parish arrested a man on child sexual abuse material charges. Investigators say he was actively on Roblox at the time of his arrest, using voice-altering technology to pose as a teenage girl.

“We had a suspect on Roblox posing as a 14-year-old girl, basically doing what he does,” LPSO Sheriff Jason Ard said.

Murrill criticized the platform’s lack of age verification and said she wants Roblox to implement safeguards similar to Louisiana’s recently passed law requiring pornography websites to verify users’ ages.

She said the company must either make significant changes or shut down.

“Games like this are not helping. They are the problem,” Murrill said.

The state of Louisiana is suing the San Mateo, California-based company for restitution, damages and attorney fees.

Murrill urged parents to stay involved with their children’s online activities and to contact police if they notice anything suspicious.
