Frequently Asked Questions

What can I do with Voice to Text Online?

You can dictate live in your browser, upload audio or video for transcription, extract YouTube transcripts, translate transcripts, create summaries and study notes, generate text-to-speech audio, save work in History, organize projects, and use API keys or MCP tools from your dashboard.

Is this voice to text tool really free?

Yes. You can use our online dictation tool completely free of charge, with no limits on live voice typing. Signing in unlocks saved History, dashboard workspace features, file transcription, transcript actions, API keys, and more advanced tools.

Is my voice data stored or sent to servers?

No. We prioritize your privacy. All speech recognition happens locally in your browser using the Web Speech API. Your voice data is processed on your device and is never sent to our servers or stored in any database.

Which browsers and devices are supported?

For the best accuracy, we recommend using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on desktop. On mobile, the tool works with Chrome for Android and Safari for iOS. Firefox currently has limited support for the Web Speech API.

Do I need to create an account or login?

No. You can start live voice typing without login immediately. Creating a free account is optional, but it lets you save work in History, use the dashboard, upload files, reopen generated outputs, and manage tools like text to speech or API keys.

How many languages does the speech to text support?

We support over 50 languages including Spanish, Hindi, French, Arabic, and many more. Simply select your preferred language from the dropdown menu above the microphone to switch accents and scripts.

Can I transcribe audio files (MP3/WAV)?

The free homepage tool is designed for real-time live dictation. If you need to transcribe a pre-recorded file such as an interview, lecture, meeting, or video, sign up free and get 1 free file transcription up to 5 minutes. File jobs can continue processing in the background, and completed transcripts are available from History. After that, credits start at $5 for 100 minutes or plans from $7/month. Check out our Audio to Text page for details.

Where can I find my saved transcripts and generated outputs?

Signed-in users can open the dashboard or History page to find saved live transcripts, uploaded-file transcriptions, YouTube transcripts, generated summaries, study notes, text-to-speech audio, and other outputs. The Grouped view keeps related outputs together with the original transcript.

Will I lose my text if I accidentally refresh?

No. We use local browser storage to auto-save your transcript in real-time. If you accidentally close the tab or refresh, your text will be there when you come back.

Does this use AI? Can I use voice to text free without AI?

Live voice typing runs in your browser using the built-in Web Speech API, so microphone audio stays on your device. Uploaded audio/video transcription, transcript actions, summaries, translations, smart tools, and text to speech use cloud services only when you choose those features. You can use the free live dictation tool without AI.
