Huawei Malaysia has announced a new software update for all Mate 10 series users that will allow them to use facial recognition technology to unlock their phones.
The Face Unlock feature will arrive in Malaysia on May 25, and users will be notified of the update in batches.
“With this new Face Unlock feature, customers can look forward to a much more secured and private usage of data and information,” said Huawei Malaysia country director Bill Liu in a statement.
This is an added security measure to the existing fingerprint sensor and password-enabled protection.
Users can customise their own settings for the feature, choosing either “direct unlock” or “slide to unlock”. For added protection, they can enable the “Smart Lock Screen Notification” feature where when the screen is locked, all notifications will only be shown when the user's face is recognised.
Huawei claims that the Face Unlock feature can recognise a customer's facial features within mere seconds. Launched in 2017, the Mate 10 series is the company's first products to feature built-in Kirin AI processor and FullView display.
