We’re hours out from the Boox 2026 product launch event, but the details on the new Boox Picco, part of the Boox Tile product range are starting to trickle out.
The Picco will mark Boox’s first entry into the microreader category. It’s a 3.97” microreader, with USB C, yes, I can hear you all cheering from here. It’s a touchscreen non-Android device, so squarely a competitor to and in the same category as the XTEINK X4 Pro.

In the EU, Boox is offering a 2 year warranty and 30 day returns. The 2 year warranty is category leading.
The processor is not yet confirmed, but early reports still suggest this is an ESP32 device running a custom Boox “lightweight” (their words) OS.
As a non-Android device, The Boox Picco does not have its own App Store so there’s no support for Amazon, Kobo, or Libby however, While there’s no 3rd party apps, the Boox Picco does include some basic built in apps, including Pomodoro (Time Management), a ToDo list, and a Countdown.
What’s notable right now is that the Boox does list that the Picco supports AZW files. Including AZW3, AZW, AZW5. All of which are Amazon Kindle standards that support DRM. Does this mean we will have full DRM support? I guess we’ll find out in a few hours. File transfer will be via web or the Boox Tiles App.
On the Boox Web App, it's currently publicly accessible without login and unlike other brands, there's a fairly robust out of copyright / public domain book store with a full library of content. This makes getting started with the Boox much easier for those buying their first microreader and wondering where do I get books from?
What’s in the Boox Picco box? Well, the Boox Picco (of course), a 16Gb SD Card, and 3x Screen Protectors. No word yet on the price of accessories, like an all important case.
If you're wondering how the Boox Picco compares to the XTEINK X4 Pro, the above specs point to a slightly smaller and lighter device, albeit with a smaller battery. But, and here's where I know many readers will be excited, you do get USB C. Boox have also, traditionally, been much better with warranty coverage and general support. For those who have been desperate for an XTEINK X4 Pro in white/gray, the Boox Picco is available in (and only available in) white/gray.
The purchase page for the Boox Picco is currently available, the Picco is also on the Euro Boox store, but pre-orders are not yet open. As with many Boox products, shipping will be both from EU and Hong Kong warehouses. Launch pricing will be US$99 + shipping/€109.99 + shipping, with standard pricing US$109 post launch - setting the Boox Picco and XTEINK X4 Pro head to head in terms of price

Update: Well the Boox launch live stream has been held. Their focus was on their note taking devices like the Note, which is not something we cover, although the Boox Palm 3 comes close. The release date for the Boox Picco still seems to be scheduled for November.
