Wizards of the Coast laid off 30 people from the internally produced Sigil virtual tabletop project on March 18 (not including contracted workers) effectively ending active development only a month after the ambitious software’s rocky public playtest.

A former WotC employee, who wished to remain anonymous, shared with Rascal a screenshot of the internal message sent to staff. It stated that a majority of the Sigil team had been let go except for a skeleton crew tasked with folding the project’s existing features into D&D Beyond. Later that day, senior game rules specialist Andy Collins confirmed several details in a LinkedIn post where the self-described “de facto design lead” on Sigil said, “approximately 30 talented developers (90% of the team) were laid off from the Sigil team at Wizards of the Coast, including yours truly.”
