 Summary

A recent leak reveals a Huawei engineering test phone running HarmonyOS, marking the first public sighting of the company's proprietary operating system on a physical device. This development suggests a consumer release of the self-developed OS may be imminent. Analysis of the leaked image indicates the device is likely a Huawei P40 Pro, potentially featuring an under-screen camera. Furthermore, the user interface elements, such as status bar icons and update buttons, bear a strong resemblance to EMUI, hinting at potential UI compatibility or a familiar design approach for developers.

In past few days, there is a photo of a Huawei phone with HarmonyOS installed appearing on the web. This is an engineering testing phone circulating inside Huawei according to the source.

This is the first time that a real phone with Huawei's own operating system HarmonyOS installed is being seen on the web. This indicates that it will not be that far for general public to be able to access the new Huawei self developed OS.

From the photo, there are a few indications:

  1. This phone sample should be a Huawei P40 Pro with rounded corners
  2. Huawei is also exploring the under-screen camera. There are three shadow areas on the top, the square one should be the light and distance sensor, the other two should be the cameras.
  3. The icons in status bar and the download and update button looks like what EMUI provides, it indicates the UI in HarmonyOS may be compatible with EMUI.

Although the actual release date for the new OS is still unknown, we will have more understanding of this new OS with more and more information posted online.
