There is just over one week to go until the much anticipated KDE Plasma 6.8 desktop release. Some last minute fixes continue flowing into Plasma 6.8 as well as early feature work continuing for Plasma 6.9.

Making it in time for the Plasma 6.8 release is that tiled windows now have square corners so they fit together nicely with other windows. This stems from a 2024 bug report that rounded corners should be disabled when the window is tiling , similar to how Microsoft Windows behaves. It was noted KDE Plasma used to behave like this bug regressed at some point.

As shown in This Week in Plasma the result of the change for tiled windows with KDE Plasma 6.8:

For Plasma 6.7.6 meanwhile is a fix where KWin could crash when using the NVIDIA 610.57.04 graphics driver or newer. There is also another crash fix for Plasma when dragging a widget to a panel.

Plasma 6.8 also has a crash fix in response to apps closing or crashing in very specific ways.

Also fixed for Plasma 6.8 is remote desktop authentication working with the FreeRDP 3.32 library and newer.

One other last minute change for Plasma 6.8 is having the System Monitor and its widgets measure GPU memory usage more accurately.

More details on these changes can be found via This Week in Plasma.
