What If I Joined?

What if I had
joined that company?

I received recruiting emails about these companies. The calculator shows how their growth would have changed the value of a hypothetical pay package.

I’ve left out pay figures from the emails. Many messages omitted them, I haven’t asked permission to share the figures I received, and pay is negotiable.

Enter annual cash and annualized equity below to see how a hypothetical package at outreach would be valued using each company’s latest recorded share price or valuation. The same starting amounts apply to every company. Cash stays fixed; only equity changes.

COMPANY STATUS

What happened to the companies?

6 of 239 (2.5%) have a reviewed shutdown or liquidation record.

Acquisitions are counted separately. These statuses do not establish what employee equity paid out.

View transition counts

239 companies shown; each company counts once.

Public dates use the whole first outreach quarter, through the snapshot date. A change inside that quarter stays unknown. Withheld companies are excluded. First eligible outreach per company; later campaigns and compensation rankings do not change the starting point. Selecting a transition shows first-outreach paths in the table. Unknown history is not assumed private. These are endpoints, so an intermediate IPO, acquisition or other event may not appear. “Latest” means the recorded research, not a live company-status feed.

Limitations

  • Different time periods. Outreach spans 2011–2026. Results cover different holding periods. Starting dates use the outreach quarter; the latest recorded price or valuation may be old. Check each row’s dates. Growth per year accounts for the length of the recorded period.
  • No inflation adjustment. Dollar values are nominal USD. The same starting package is used across years, even though its purchasing power would differ. Taxes, dividends and option exercise costs are also excluded.
  • Holding the equity. The model assumes I kept the original grant through the comparison date. I might have left before vesting, sold earlier, or been unable to keep the equity that long. Vesting and sale restrictions are not modeled.
  • No career progression. Salary stays fixed. There are no raises, promotions, bonuses, new equity grants, job changes or layoffs. Package / yr is the original package revalued, not what I would be earning now or total earnings over the period.
  • Paper equity value. A private company’s valuation does not establish what employee shares could sell for. Share classes and liquidation preferences are not modeled. Private-round dilution is not estimated; set it with the dilution input. For public stocks, that input adds a reduction beyond the share-price change.
  • Incomplete history. This is my saved recruiting history, not a representative sample of the job market. Missing messages and company data affect the ranking. Outreach does not mean I had an offer or could have joined on these terms. The default ranking uses each company’s best quarter for the selected metric; transition filters use its first outreach quarter.

Email text and recruiter details are removed. 303 campaigns count toward the archive total but are excluded from the leaderboard because their company names are sensitive, unclear or still need review.
