Human Flatus Atlas

Everyone farts, but what's normal?

We're using wearable sensors to create the first atlas of intestinal gas.

Where do you rank?

Due to overwhelming demand, enrollment in the Human Flatus Atlas is currently paused. You can join the waitlist by clicking "Join The Study" above and completing the Eligibility Survey. We cannot guarantee that everyone will be able to participate.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

For over a century, flatus data came from self-reports or invasive medical procedures. No one has measured flatus in everyday life. Published estimates hover around 10-14 daily flatus, but objective data from our wearable sensors reveals the that it is closer to 30.

The HUMAN FLATUS ATLAS is a first-of-its-kind nationwide study using Smart Underwear technology to finally quantify the dynamic range of intestinal gas production and explore what these patterns reveal about gut health and the microbiome.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're recruiting participants across the full spectrum of gut activity. Whether you barely notice your digestion or you're convinced you're off the charts, we want to measure you. Every data point helps us understand what's actually normal.

NORMAL PEOPLE

You think you're average. Maybe you are, maybe you aren't. Most people have no idea where they actually fall. Wear the sensor, find out, and help us define what "normal" really means.

HYDROGEN HYPERPRODUCERS

You know who you are. Or maybe you don't, and people have been too polite to say. Either way, we're looking for people at the high end of the spectrum. If you're producing 40, 50, or more events per day, your microbiome has a lot to teach us.

ZEN DIGESTERS

You eat fiber. You eat beans. And yet, almost nothing. If your gut runs silent despite a diet that should produce gas, we want to know why. You might hold clues to microbial efficiency that science hasn't yet explained.
