Smile pre-launch media briefing

Media are invited to join online briefings ahead of the launch of the SMILE mission aboard a Vega-C rocket from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana. SMILE is a joint mission between ESA and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, designed to study how the solar wind interacts with Earth’s magnetic field. Using X-ray and ultraviolet imaging, it will provide the first global views of these interactions and observe auroras continuously for up to 45 hours. By improving our understanding of space weather and geomagnetic storms, SMILE will help protect critical space infrastructure and future human activities in orbit.
