This week’s Insider episode will be released later than usual, on Friday at 6pm London time (1pm in New York) rather than Thursday.
As AI becomes the defining technology of the 21st century, a fierce battle is under way over who gets to control it. Last week Donald Trump’s administration banned federal agencies from using Anthropic’s tools after the company insisted that Claude, its main model, not be used for mass surveillance or autonomous weapons. Now the company has been declared a supply-chain risk. Zanny Minton Beddoes, our editor-in-chief, sits down with Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s boss, to discuss this power struggle, the difficulty of preventing a race to the bottom and the likelihood of an AI catastrophe.
