A 91-year-old gamer in China has gone viral after completing Resident Evil Requiem without using any guides.
Yang Binglin, known online as “Game Grandpa,” has caught attention with videos showing him calmly working his way through Resident Evil Requiem. Clips show him methodically taking down Lickers as Leon with well-aimed rifle shots, and slipping past creepy enemies as Grace.
However, what’s surprised viewers most is how the 91-year-old keeps track of his in-game progress. Rather than using tutorials or walkthroughs, Yang documents everything by hand, writing down map layouts, puzzle solutions, and key details in a notebook.

While modern games offer built-in guidance, Yang continues to rely on his own notes and problem-solving, treating each playthrough as something he needs to work through.
Reflecting on the series, Yang said Resident Evil taught him that “no matter how difficult things are, as long as someone is with you, you can get through it.”
His growing audience has also become a key part of his gaming experience, with Yang mentioning that “Having kids [in the chat] playing along with [him] is definitely more fun than playing alone.”
This isn’t the first game the 91-year-old has completed, as Yang holds the Guinness World Record for being the oldest video game streamer.
BiliBiliBefore picking up a controller, Yang worked in scientific research and engineering related to oil and gas drilling in southern Sichuan before retiring in 1996.
It was after retirement that he discovered video games, starting with early consoles before becoming a long-time fan of series like Resident Evil. Over the years, he has played across multiple generations of hardware while building a large collection of physical titles.
