Russia’s Enteromix cancer vaccine shows 100% success in preclinical trials

A new hope in the fight against cancer is emerging from Russia. The country’s Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) has announced that its mRNA-based cancer vaccine, Enteromix, has shown 100% success in preclinical trials.

The vaccine not only proved to be safe but also showed powerful tumour-fighting abilities. Sputnik, posting on X, wrote: “The Russian Enteromix cancer vaccine is now ready for clinical use, the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) has announced.”

FMBA head Veronica Skvortsova explained that the vaccine was customised for each patient, tailored to their individual RNA. The first form of the vaccine will be used to treat colorectal cancer, one of the most common and deadly cancers worldwide, she said.

Research is also moving ahead for other forms, including glioblastoma, a highly aggressive brain tumour and specific types of melanoma, such as ocular melanoma.

The preclinical results showed significant shrinking of tumours and a slowdown in their growth. The vaccine was also found to be safe for repeated use, a key factor in long-term cancer treatment.

Unlike traditional vaccines we receive in childhood for illnesses like measles or chickenpox, cancer vaccines work by training the body’s immune system to identify and attack cancer cells. While preventive vaccines such as HPV already protect against cancers caused by viruses, therapeutic vaccines like Enteromix are designed to treat existing cancers directly.

The announcement of this breakthrough was made during the 10th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, which was held from September 3 to 6. The event saw over 8,400 delegates from 75 countries, but it was Enteromix that stole the spotlight, as reported by The Economic Times.

Globally, cancer continues to be one of the leading causes of death, with millions of new cases reported each year.

If further clinical trials confirm its effectiveness in humans, Enteromix could mark a milestone in global cancer research and potentially reshape how doctors treat one of the world’s deadliest diseases.
