Today we announced(opens in a new tab or window) that Cavalry is joining Canva as part of our continued investment in professional creative tools. It’s an exciting moment – not just for Canva and Cavalry – but for the entire motion design community.

Cavalry has quickly become a modern favourite among professional motion designers, thanks to its procedural, performance-first approach and deep commitment to creative control. Bringing that expertise into Canva marks an important step forward in how we think about professional creative work.

A broader professional design ecosystem

Last year, we launched the all-new Affinity(opens in a new tab or window) and introduced the Creative Operating System(opens in a new tab or window), sharing our vision for an all-new professional design ecosystem. By joining Canva, Cavalry takes us a step closer to forming a complete professional workflow that supports deep craft while enabling work to scale seamlessly across teams.

Motion doesn’t exist in isolation. Designers move fluidly between disciplines — from static composition to animation, from craft to collaboration, from individual precision to team-wide deployment.

Together with Affinity, Cavalry strengthens a professional stack that now spans static design, vector work, layout, and motion.

The future of creative work requires both precision tools and scalable platforms. We’re bringing those worlds closer together, connecting advanced tools with the flexibility and reach of Canva.

Creatives can craft assets in powerful, precise tools like Affinity(opens in a new tab or window) and Cavalry, then move seamlessly into Canva to collaborate, adapt, and distribute their work across teams, formats, and channels. Within Canva, those assets can live inside structured brand environments – from centralised Brand Kits and controlled templates to coordinated updates across campaigns – helping teams maintain consistency at scale without compromising the original craft.

Deep craft and scalable delivery no longer need to live in separate systems, they can exist within one connected workflow.

Built for professional motion designers

Cavalry earned its place in the motion design world by doing something different. Its procedural, systems-based approach prioritises flexibility, repeatability, and performance. It wasn’t built as a simplified alternative; it was built specifically for professional motion designers and the complex workflows they rely on. That professional focus remains central.

We’ve invested in Cavalry because of its depth as a professional-grade motion tool. The goal isn’t to simplify what makes it powerful, but to support and strengthen it. Professional motion design demands precision, flexibility, and tools that can scale across complex projects.

Accessibility without compromise

Cavalry’s accessible pricing model has been a defining part of its growth. That philosophy closely aligns with the belief shared by Canva and Affinity: powerful professional tools should be widely available, without forcing creatives to choose between quality, control, and affordability.

Everything that is free in Cavalry today will remain free. Our focus is on expanding access while continuing to invest in the depth professionals rely on.

Affordability and professional capability are not opposing ideas. They can, and should, exist together.

Led by the team who built it

The Cavalry team is joining Canva and will continue shaping the product’s direction, in keeping the founders’ vision, but now with bigger investment and scale.

Just like Canva and Affinity, the Cavalry team believe the best creative tools are built in close dialogue with their users, and we’re excited to continue to develop Cavalry alongside the motion design community.

What comes next

This marks an exciting new chapter for Cavalry, and for Canva as we deepen our commitment to professional creative work.

We’re investing in Cavalry’s continued development, preserving the power that motion designers value, and building its future in close partnership with the community that shaped it.

We’re excited about what this partnership will make possible, and we’re looking forward to designing the future together.
