Tuition Refund Guarantee Questions

Important Note: The FAQs below explains certain tuition and Tuition Refund Guarantee features and terms, but do not override any terms in the Tuition Refund Guarantee agreement itself. Students should read their enrollment agreement and TRG agreement carefully to understand their terms.

What is the Tuition Refund Guarantee and how does it work?

Down arrow

Learners who elect the Tuition Refund Guarantee (TRG) may be eligible for a 100% refund on their BloomTech tuition and an additional 10% payment if they receive a BloomTech certificate of completion for an eligible course and are not earning, or have received offers for, at least $50,000 on an annualized basis ($4,166 for at least 3 consecutive months) after 365 days and are in compliance with BloomTech’s TRG requirements. BloomTech’s TRG is only available to learners in Full Stack Web Development, Data Science, or Backend Development programs who pay full upfront tuition (one lump sum or in installments) or finance their BloomTech tuition through Deferred Tuition.

If you are approved for a TRG refund, BloomTech will forgive 100% of your tuition, refund any tuition payments to BloomTech, and/or cause your Deferred Tuition lender to refund any amounts paid by you on your loan (including interest and fees actually paid), cancel the loan, and pay you an additional 10% payment.

Learners who would like to apply for a TRG refund must do so within 30 days of the Termination Date listed in their Tuition Refund Guarantee.

Which BloomTech tuition options are eligible for the Tuition Refund Guarantee?

Down arrow

The following BloomTech tuition options are eligible for the Tuition Refund Guarantee: full upfront tuition (lump sum payment or installments) and Deferred Tuition. Income Share Agreements tuition options and international learner upfront tuition are not eligible for the Tuition Refund Guarantee at this time.

Web3 Development is not eligible for the Tuition Refund Guarantee.

What are the Career Commitments required by the Tuition Refund Guarantee?

Down arrow

The primary commitments are that you must apply for 10 jobs with follow-up and post at least 5 GitHub contributions to your public GitHub profile per week. Please note that this list is not exhaustive; please review your Tuition Refund Guarantee carefully for additional details.

BloomTech is confident that you will land a high-paying job in tech if you remain committed over a 365 day period. We recognize that the job search may be draining, so grads will remain in good standing for the Tuition Refund Guarantee if they meet these requirements for 46 of 52 weeks.

Are international learners eligible for the Tuition Refund Guarantee?

Down arrow

At this time, only learners who are US Citizens, US Permanent Residents, or DACA recipients are eligible for the Tuition Refund Guarantee.

Do I have to take the first job I’m offered that’s more than $50K?

Down arrow

Receiving an offer that generates at least $50,000 on an annualized basis ($4,166 on a monthly basis) for at least three (3) consecutive months makes you ineligible for the Tuition Refund Guarantee (note: this is not the only ineligibility trigger - please read your TRG carefully). You are under no legal obligation to accept your first offer, and may continue to recruit and interview for additional roles. However, you will not be eligible for the Tuition Refund Guarantee if you turn down the first offer and do not receive any subsequent offers.

What if I make a $50K annual salary but the job is only 3 months long or temporary?

Down arrow

Any combination of salaried, hourly, contract, or other positions where the total gross amount you are entitled to for a consecutive three month (or longer) period is at least $50,000 on an annualized basis (or $4,166 on a monthly basis) will disqualify you from Tuition Refund Guarantee eligibility. You will retain TRG eligibility if your total gross income is below $4,166 per month for three (3) consecutive months or above $4,166 but only for one (1) or two (2) consecutive months.

How do I report my income? How is my income verified?

Down arrow

BloomTech requires that you report all job offers within three (3) business days. Offers are verified via offer letter or other official communication via our Repayment team. Alternatively, you may provide pay stubs as proof of actual earned income. Please refer to BloomTech’s Learner Guide for additional details.

If I end up getting my tuition back, how will it be paid back to me? Will it be taxed? Do I pay any fees or interests out of the original tuition?

Down arrow

If you are approved for a TRG refund, BloomTech will forgive 100% of your tuition, refund any tuition payments to BloomTech, and/or cause your lender to refund any amounts paid by you on your loan (including interest and fees actually paid), and cancel the loan.

What if I file a joint tax return?

Down arrow

Your tax filing status has no bearing on your TRG eligibility. BloomTech will only consider your individual earned income to determine if you received an offer in at least the qualifying amount ($50,000 or more on an annualized basis, or at least 3 consecutive months with a combined earned income of $4,166 or more).
