Editorial Reviews
Review
"Most books that teach how to code are dry, boring, abstract, and written for people already familiar with coding concepts. Learn C Programming Through Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales takes an innovative approach to teaching C." - Michael Knight, High School Computer Science Teacher and GeekDad Contributor"The illustrations provide aesthetics that will appeal to young and old programmers alike. Using relatable fairy tales is a novel approach for new programmers to learn how to code." - Jeffrey Miller, Dean of Engineering and Computational Sciences at Southern Utah University

Brilliant! Fabulous pictures that she already loves and coding lessons and samples she’ll grow into!
Well, at two years old, I don't think granddaughter babygirl is quite your target audience just yet, but as my professional coding language for forty years was C I hope to nudge her into it as soon as possible (lol, I don't know where “facilitating and encouraging" becomes "indoctrination and grooming", but we'll see!) The book is brilliant! With a coding lesson and sample code on the left-hand page and a bright entertaining colour picture on the right-hand page it is fabulous. Already she is captivated and entranced by the pictures, and I hope to edge her slowly into the coding side of the book; the example code and descriptive text look very learner-friendly.

I love the concept of this book learning to code with nursery rhymes. For more novice coders you might want to explain a little bit more where they need to go in order to even start the coding of Jack Be Nimble. I know there is a section at the end that explains this, but it may be more helpful in the beginning.

Great idea, but will it work?

This is a clever, ambitious way to teach C to children. Each nursery rhyme or fairy tale introduces one or more concepts of C programming. There is a lot of text to explain each concept. As someone who hasn't taught or witness programming lessons for kids, it's a little hard to know whether this is an effective method or if it's too much for them.
The programs also don't do a lot; in fact, a child might go, "Why? What does this really accomplish?" But as you go through new concepts such as entering data, I feel like the purpose of each program becomes clearer.
I'd like to see someone use this book with their kids in order to truly know how effective it is.
