Andrew Forrest’s $60m war on Facebook over scam investment ads

It was 2019 and Andrew Forrest, mining magnate, billionaire and self-appointed courtroom warrior, was on the phone to his dad. The elder Forrest had a question. Why had his son, the fabulously wealthy Twiggy, taken to spruiking online crypto schemes? The video ads were everywhere. A friend was on the brink of investing – persuaded by a clip of Andrew posted to the social media platform Facebook.

The younger Forrest’s face fell, recalls his personal lawyer Simon Clarke, who was sitting on the other side of Twiggy’s desk. “I could literally feel Andrew grab down the phone and go, ‘Dad, it’s a fraud. Don’t let him do it’.”
