Atlas Obscura Turns First Annual Profit in 16-Year History

The outlet, which caters to a niche audience of serial travelers, brought in $18.3 million in revenue last year, up from $15.6 million in 2024, according to chief executive Louise Story. The publisher was also able to turn the first profit of its 16-year history, banking a return of $2.6 million.

Unlike The Daily Beast, which broke its 17-year streak of losses while still expanding its headcount, Atlas Obscura owes its newfound profit, in part, to a painful rash of reductions.
