What would it take for functional programming languages to cross the chasm? (eg Elm, Rescript, Haskell) How is it possible for a clearly superior-in-prod-usecases paradigm to remain so niche for so long? This is what scares me most about the direction of programming trends.

Becoming "mainstream" requires something to be easy enough for average bootcampers to learn in a couple months and be productive with. If it's not *that* easy, it will remain niche (but maybe with a devout following).
