Kimi K3 is open-weight but its licence mostly protects Moonshot’s commercial hosting business: - large MaaS providers need Moonshot’s permission - extremely large applications must advertise Kimi K3 - private partner contracts may impose additional commercial terms; - Any company offering K3 as a hosted model service must sign a separate Moonshot agreement once group revenue exceeds $20M in any trailing 12 months. - That threshold counts total revenue of the provider and its affiliates, not just revenue earned from K3. - Applications embedding K3 for a specific product feature are generally excluded from the Model-as-a-Service restriction. - Commercial products exceeding 100 million monthly users or $20 million monthly revenue must prominently display “Kimi K3.” - The public licence does not specify royalties, revenue sharing or mandatory commercial pricing terms. - The license contains no public clause preventing inference providers from pricing below Moonshot; any such restriction would have to come from a separate partner contract. - K3 can be used and modified, but the licence also applies to fine-tunes and other derivatives. Moonshot’s published API pricing is currently $0.30/million cache-hit input tokens, $3/million cache-miss input tokens and $15/million output tokens.
