Not sure what you mean exactly with “designing”, but my favourite textbook for distributed algorithms is Cachin et al.: distributedprogramming.net
The SRE Workbook has a chapter called Non Abstract Large System Design - which is one of the best resources I’ve found. There are also talks on this topic
