Announcing Tako's integration with Perplexity, bringing structured, shareable knowledge cards into AI-powered search for faster, more reliable research.

By Alex Rosenberg, Co-founder & CEO at Tako

We're exiting the internet age and entering the age of AI. Now only a few prompts separate you from working software code, summarized textbooks, or a reasonably compelling sonnet about Mars. Large language models and RAG are great at generating content based on large corpuses of unstructured training data. But when you ask AI for real, objective answers to questions about the world's data, you get disclaimers imploring you to do your own research. Sometimes AI cites outdated copies of unreliable internet sources. Sometimes AI hallucinates. Even when AI gets it right, you have to read through paragraphs of text when an ideal answer would be visual, engaging, and shareable. You just can't fully trust or use AI answers.

It doesn't have to be this way.

We're thrilled to announce Tako, a new kind of AI search engine for visualizing and sharing the world's knowledge. Our natural language search generates shareable, engaging displays you can embed in apps, search, and storytelling. We source all of our data in real-time from authoritative, vetted providers. Today, we support single domain searches (e.g. “Nvidia stock price”), cross-domain searches (e.g. “Nvidia stock price vs. Biden approval rating”), and time-based searches (e.g. “Nvidia stock price vs. Biden approval rating since 1/11/22”) across a range of financial, economic, and political data.

For example, when you ask “United States Big Mac price,” Tako's API and search engine returns the following knowledge card:

Gathering and synthesizing evidence takes a lot of time and effort, and that pain spans use cases and domains. From researching and substantiating a point, to crafting a compelling piece of content, or settling an argument, analysts, creators, and consumers want to ground their factual storytelling in data. As people increasingly shift their research and productivity to AI-native apps, developers also need to offer frictionless access to knowledge to deliver on their core user promises.

If you ask AI insiders to list the most visionary and fast-shipping companies in AI right now, many would answer Perplexity first. We agree. So we are thrilled to announce our first partnership, bringing Tako's advanced knowledge search and visualization to Perplexity's answer engine.

Perplexity's ambition to disrupt traditional search is both staggering and inspiring, so it's no surprise they're the first AI-native app to integrate Tako's API. With Tako, Perplexity users can perform research not possible anywhere else. Try searching “Retail gas prices vs. WTI crude” anywhere but Perplexity, and you'll get blue links or word walls. But with Perplexity, you get a shareable, visual answer:

Our vision is to let anyone visualize and share the world's knowledge, and with this launch we're just getting started.
