Seven civil society watchdog organisations, including The Good Lobby, have jointly addressed the coordinators of the European Parliament’s ITRE committee, calling for the withdrawal of Aura Salla’s appointment as rapporteur for the Digital Omnibus.

The open letter raises serious concerns about potential conflicts of interest, given Ms Salla’s former role as a senior lobbyist for Meta and her continued contacts with the company. It highlights the risks this appointment poses to the integrity of the legislative process, particularly in the context of a proposal that could significantly weaken key pillars of the EU’s digital rulebook, including the GDPR and ePrivacy framework.

At a time when digital rights, data protection, and democratic safeguards are under growing pressure from Big Tech lobbying and geopolitical developments, it is crucial that EU policymaking remains transparent, accountable, and free from undue corporate influence. The signatory organisations therefore urge the European Parliament to uphold the highest standards of integrity and procedural propriety by reconsidering this appointment.
