A protective case for your glasses or sunglasses. The mechanism allows for easy one-handed usage. The inner lining is printed from TPU and the outer shell from PLA, so this design can protect your glasses well.

While this does look complex it is actually super easy to print and make! The design does not require a multi-color printer. Single and multi-color printing models are included as STL and 3MF for all versions! They work with all current and usual multi color setups. When you use the interlocking files, you can even print it all on one build plate!

Sizes All sizes have a little wiggle room of 2 mm to X and Y direction.

  • 150 x 50 x 21 mm
  • 150 x 50 x 25 mm
  • 150 x 50 x 30 mm
  • 150 x 50 x 35 mm
  • 150 x 50 x 40 mm
  • 160 x 60 x 21 mm
  • 160 x 60 x 25 mm
  • 160 x 60 x 30 mm
  • 160 x 60 x 35 mm
  • 160 x 60 x 40 mm

What you need

  • Three 10x2 mm magnets – I used N38 strength (that’s like medium) but weaker or stronger one’s work, too.
  • PLA and TPU filament – I used TPU 95A, but others hardness works, too.
  • Glue – normal superglue does the trick perfectly

Instructions

  • Measure your glasses and choose your size
  • Print all parts, no special settings, default will do
  • Only for separate printing: Glue the TPU lining into the PLA top and bottom
  • Connect the two halves by closing it down and inserting a piece of filament as hinge
  • Cut the piece slightly shorter than the length of the hinge so it does not stick out. - - Push it in with another piece of filament.
  • Put a bit of glue into the pin hole, add the latch and press in the pin (the pin prints sideways now to be more durable)
  • Glue the first magnet into the latch
  • Pay attention to the magnetization of the two magnets that you add to the top. The magnet on the left-hand side (when you lay the assembly in front of you with the bottom towards yourself, case opened) has to attract the one in the bottom. The right magnet has to repel it.
  • Have a look at my videos and photos for reference if anything is unclear!
