From your flashes of inspiration at 2:00 AM to the list of funny things your children say, or that brilliant idea you had in the conference room, and your ever-growing list of household chores  OneNote holds the notes to your life to track all the things you need to keep in mind, but simply don’t have room for in your overworked brain.

We enjoy the privilege of serving millions of customers like you, who each have unique needs and who use OneNote in unique waysOver the past year, we’ve been listening to your passionate feedback and are humbled by your consistent love for OneNote. We hear you loud and clear — you want to keep your notes your way!

With that in mind, we’re pleased to announce that we are continuing mainstream support for OneNote 2016 beyond October 2020, so that you can continue using the version of OneNote that works best for you. New support dates for OneNote 2016 now align with Office 2019 (October 10, 2023 for mainstream support and October 14, 2025 for extended support). We also want to make deployment and installation easier for organizations and individuals, so for Windows users, starting in March 2020, when you deploy or install Office 365 subscriptions that include the Office desktop apps or Office 2019, the OneNote desktop app will be installed by default alongside Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. If you’d like to install OneNote 2016 earlier, you can get it here: aka.ms/InstallOneNote.

And, of course, OneNote should look the way you want it to. That’s why this week we are rolling out Dark Mode for OneNote 2016This will be available for Office 365 subscribers and non-volume licensing Office 2019 customers. Dark Mode changes the app’s interface elements from light to dark. Using OneNote in this mode can improve readability in low light environments, increase legibility of the user interface as well as your notes, provide better contrast, and reduce eye strain. You might also use OneNote in Dark Mode simply as a personal preference. The choice is yours!

We’re excited about today’s announcements and we’ll keep listening to your feedback to make your OneNote better and better! Please continue requesting features and telling us what you think via the in-app feedback.

I have an issue with OneNote.

When accessing (https://www.onenote.com/) from any browser, on any device, and on any network (even via VPN), I get the error: "We can't sign you in right now. Please try again later."

    Error code: 80041002
    Correlation ID: ebede61cb8c14342bbc4102a674c4b2d

This issue occurs only with my main account, while other accounts work fine.

Hello all. I have a notebook that has a section which is password protected and I urgently need it recovered. I remember the password almost, but there seems to be a letter or two I forgot and I would like to retrieve my section.

Tools exist that claim to brute force password protected sections.  Since, as the other poster mentioned, this is entirely local to your system, there is no way to prevent such an attack just as there is no way to retrieve the lost password from Microsoft.  If you know most of the password except one or two letters, this might be a feasible way to recover your data.  I will not link to such tools as they can be used for nefarious purposes and themselves might be malware.  USE EXTREME CAUTION if you decide to use such a tool, especially if you do not have a strong anti-malware/EDR system in place.  I should also note that if you don't actually know any part of the password, it could take dozens to thousands of years to successfully decrypt the password using brute force if the password is strong.

An aside to this, if anybody wants to ensure their password-protected notebooks actually are secure, you need to use a very long and complex password to make brute force infeasible and potentially future-proof later attack attempts, at least until quantum computers makes such attacks trivial.

Everything I have read on this subject says that there is no way of recovering a password protected section without the password :(

Microsoft should have been able to privately assist, since they for sure have the passwords in their database.

Unfortunately, the new OneNote cannot be installed on a PC (Win11 24H2) with MS-Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021 installed :-(.

OneNote for Windows 10, on the other hand, can be used in parallel with the OneNote version of the Office package without any problems.

I have been trying to change the autocorrect language from English to Portuguese, but it continues to correct only in English. I have followed all the steps, restarted my Surface, contacted Microsoft chat support, updated Microsoft 365 Office, and nothing has worked. I would appreciate some assistance.

Just a guess, but try deleting English, leave Match MS Windows setting.  (Which apparently is English).  Or try it the other way around, delete the MS Windwos setting.  Third test would be to delete both 1 & 3 and set your Windows to Portugese and see if it works at all.

There's no option for justify in OneNote 😡 😵!!!!!

There's no option for justify in OneNote!!!!

You are correct. I just tried it.
I think this only happens because it is a pdf doc (word etc will edit fine) as a pdf is esentially an uneditable document (although there is software that you can edit with) when you make a change it wants to create a new pdf.

You will notice in the OneNote printout, the 'Edit button' does not appear.

maryo345 I tried both ways . But the way that you are suggesting me does not allow saving the pdf at all . Onenote is storing the inserted pdf in some obscure unreachable location. When opening the file location the location of the file in windows explorer mentions some temporary folder with random name.So If I open the printout using the file icon that appears above onenote printout, and make changes to that file , it is not possible to save that file ( in whichever editor I open that file and edit it , it displays ,this file cannot be saved message when I try to save it).

Only file which can be edited and have the edits saved to happens to be the original file.

Are you modifying the pdf that appears on the OneNote page itself? If you are, then the printout will refresh.

But if you are modifying the original pdf that you 'printed' to OneNote, that is a totally separate copy.

When you Insert a Printout to a OneNote page, you will notice that it also includes a copy of y our document above the printout. That is the only one that the printout will refresh to match. I don't think that is very clear to people using that feature.

In onenote desktop the Refresh printout feature is not working on my device. I deleted some pages and underlined some text in a pdf inserted printout file in onenote. After doing these changes in original file and right clicking file attachment refresh printout option in onenote for that file , these changes should have reflected in the displayed printout , but it did not happen. I even tried repair installation of onenote but problem is still present. Please help me fix this issue.
