Swinsian 3 is now available to download. This is a big update that brings native support for Apple Silicon machines as well as lots of new features and bug fixes.
The cost of a licence is $34.95. Swinsian 3 is a paid update but anybody who has an existing Swinsian 2 licence can get a 40% discount by following the ‘Purchase’ link in the Swinsian menu in the app.
Features
Tagging support has been expanded, particularly for classical music libraries, with support for Movement, Movement Name, Work, Original Release Date, Barcode and Lyricist. There are now custom sort fields for artist, album and album artist so you can change the way tracks are sorted without having to modify the displayed tags.
If you have manually organised your files you can now see the folder structure in Swinsian by setting one of the browser columns to show ‘Folders’.
Audio
Swinsian can now recognise ReplayGain or SoundCheck tags in a file and adjust the playback volume appropriately to keep the volume consistent across tracks.
The equalizer now has over 20 built in presets to make it easier to use.
Swinsian 3 gives you more advanced control of the audio device used for playback. You can prevent other applications playing audio on the same device by enabling hog mode and specify if you want the audio device sample rate or bitrate or both changed to match the source.
It is now possible to control how much of a track is played by specifying custom start and stop times. There’s also a per track volume setting.
Export
The playlist export command is now more powerful. You can export copies of the music files that make up a playlist as well as exporting multiple playlists at once.
It is also possible to export the Swinsian library as an iTunes style XML file to make it easier to import into other applications like DJ software.
Interface
The playback queue has been redesigned to be more streamlined. Swinsian 3 has support for macOS dark mode.
Compatibility
Swinsian now requires a minimum of macOS 10.13. There is native support for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
