Based on my computer knowledge and usage of today's latest so-called AI.
I do not use AI, so I have no opinion of any consequence. I just thought people seem to click on stuff which mentions AI, so I'd do one for the clicks too.
I don't even use AI to waste mega-things of electricity to generate a search that gives a ridiculous result, just so I can get likes and re-toots by laughing and pointing at its terribleness on social media.
It all just passes me by. Like internet connected things in your house, I shrug and think "Why?"
Don't need it. Never needed it before, don't need it now. Same with AI. I have a brain, why do I want to let some tech-boys impression of a brain try to do things for me?
Summarise search results? Why? I searched to search, not to guess at what the search might say.
Suggest a reply? Why? I just want to write a reply.
See, I've run out of things I've heard it's meant to be useful for already. There are probably more, but I don't care enough to look.
I know, there's so much 'convenience' I'm missing out on. I know there are some buttons appearing in some apps I use that say "Use AI to...", but I don't press them.
I value the doing of things, even slowly or incorrectly, as much as getting the results of doing the thing.
I want to write a reply as me. Get an AI to suggest a reply, or write in the 'style' of me? Why? If I write it, it's already in the style of me.
Might cost a custard cream and not a gigawatt though.
I am in the happy position of not needing to save time. I want to spend time. Time is only valuable when you're spending it. Saving it never works. There aren't any time banks to put it in to start off with. I invest by spending it.
Now, AI in science seems to be giving great results. Those people are doing proper work and getting results they can rely on with whatever systems they're writing and using. That sounds good.
People like me? Nah.
And pay to use it?
