ScreenRant's exclusive new image from Prime Video teases the official introduction of Lord of the Rings' first teenage dwarves in the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3.
The photo features returning stars Owain Arthur and Sophia Nomvete, who play the now-rulers of Khazad-dum, Durin and Disa. Previously in The Rings of Power, the couple's two young dwarven children were seen running through their home with their faces obscured. Now, as The Rings of Power season 3 picks up after a five-year time jump, these two characters are coming into their own. The exclusive image from ScreenRant's 2026 Fall TV Preview unveils the now-teenage dwarves, played by Lee Braithwaite and Amber Mendez-Martin, standing next to their royal parents against a wild Middle-earth backdrop.

"While Durin and Disa's children have always had a presence on the show, in Season 3 audiences will finally meet their daughter, Gerda (played by Amber Mendez-Martin), and son, Gamli (played by Lee Braithwaite), both of whom are now energetic teens. Over the five-year gap since Season 2 these two royal children have grown up in Khazad-dûm, watching their parents lead the Dwarves as a united front against the threat of Sauron’s growing power. And though they might be young…the siblings find themselves playing a critical role in the growing unrest deep within the mountain kingdom."
The introduction of Gerda and Gamli is another first for the Lord of the Rings franchise, since teenage dwarves were never depicted in previous on-screen adaptations or even really discussed in J.R.R. Tolkien's works. This all comes with the intimate look The Rings of Power has provided of Khazad-dûm, the cavernous mountain kingdom of dwarves that later became known as Moria. By the events of Frodo's adventures, Khazad-dûm has long since fallen, destroyed with all its people by the same Balrog that takes down Gandalf the Grey.
Back in The Rings of Power season 2, King Durin III sacrificed his life to bury this Balrog after digging too deep while under the influence of one of Sauron's Rings of Power. This left Arthur's Durin IV as the ruler of Khazad-dum. The newly introduced Gamli should now be Durin's heir, though he is curiously not named after his father and grandfather, as is tradition. Regardless, Middle-earth lore suggests that the thriving kingdom these teens know won't last for too much longer.
Heading into The Rings of Power season 3, the Free Peoples of Middle-earth have been at open war with Sauron and the forces of Mordor for five years. This means much of Gerda and Gamli's life will have been dominated by the tension and fear in their parents' kingdom. Prime Video's description of this exclusive image suggests that these two teenagers may only make things worse in Khazad-dûm by further fueling "unrest" among the dwarves.
In The Lord of the Rings, Gimli (played by John Rhys-Davies in Peter Jackson's film trilogy) is a descendant of Durin's line, which makes either Gerda or Gamli his direct ancestor. However, it's important to note that Tolkien never listed these specific characters within his works, and both dwarves are original to Prime Video's The Rings of Power.
This continues a trend on Prime Video's part. Because Khazad-dûm is an ancient and doomed city, little is known about the residents there during the Second Age. The Rings of Power has, therefore, had to take some creative liberties, previously introducing the on-screen Lord of the Rings franchise's first female dwarf, Disa, before providing that sneak peek at her two young children. Now that Gerda and Gamli have grown into teenagers, it could be that Rings of Power will introduce more of their peers as well as additional dwarf families.
Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere the first three episodes of season 3 on November 11, 2026. This will be followed by episodes 5 and 6 on November 18, and the final two episodes on November 25, 2026.
