What is Fedora?
The Fedora Project will soon release Fedora Linux 45 featuring key updates across installation, performance, and developer experience:
- Replacing the legacy in-kernel console with kmscon, bringing smooth rendering, better Unicode/font support, and enhanced system stability.
- Requiring valid package signatures by default before installation, preventing unsigned packages from being installed unintentionally.
- Standardizing desktop secret management across environments with oo7, replacing legacy backend implementations like GNOME Keyring and KWallet.
- New software versions, including Podman 6, Pandas 3, MySQL and MariaDB; as well as early access to updated toolchains and runtimes, including Python 3.15, Go 1.27, GCC 16.2, and glibc 2.44.
- Atomic Desktop ISO builds also now use image-builder, and Fedora Linux 45 beta adds systemd-oomd and zram swap support to Fedora CoreOS.
- Anaconda now has initial WebUI installation flows for Atomic Desktops, and native support for partitioning stratis filesystems.
Join us on October 30 at our release party ahead of the F45 release to celebrate with the Fedora Community!
What is a Release Party?
Fedora releases a new major version roughly every six months. Each release is an opportunity for contributors, users, and open source enthusiasts to come together, explore what’s new, and celebrate the work behind it.
The Fedora Linux 45 Release Party will feature talks, demos, and discussions with Fedora contributors and SIGs. View the draft schedule: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_Linux_45_Release_Party_Schedule
