Hey there 👋
Continuing my series of country guides, I’ve put together a list of helpful links for those considering a move to Australia.
Hat tip to Eli Gündüz, Principal Tech Recruiter at Atlassian and founder of Careersy Coaching, for his contribution to this compilation!
Here we go:
To relocate wisely, start by doing some research.
Visas: https://relocate.me/visas/australia and the interactive Visa Finder tool from the Australian Department of Home Affairs
Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) – a points-tested permanent residency visa for skilled professionals without employer or state sponsorship
National Innovation visa (subclass 858) – replaced the Global Talent visa, Australia’s former permanent residency pathway for individuals with exceptional and internationally recognized achievements
Skilled occupation list / eligible roles (SOL, MLTSSL, STSOL, ROL) – essential for skilled & employer-sponsored visas
Points calculator (official tool) – to estimate your points for skilled visas
Taxes: https://relocate.me/taxes/guide/australia + official guidance from the Australian Taxation Office
Take-home pay calculator: https://relocate.me/taxes/calculator/australia or https://moneysmart.gov.au/work-and-tax/income-tax-calculator by the Australian Securities & Investments Commission
Cost of living: https://relocate.me/cost-of-living/australia + Numbeo + ask locals on Reddit (for example)
Healthcare & insurance options:
General overview: https://relocate.me/healthcare/australia
Everything about Medicare (public healthcare): https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/medicare

Developer salaries in Australia: levels.fyi + SEEK + Glassdoor + Reddit for first-hand insights (for example)
Ask questions about Australia:

r/MovingtoAustralia – a subreddit for international students, job seekers, and expats who live in or want to move to Australia

Expat forums:
If you’re looking to relocate for a tech job, there are companies in Australia that hire talent from abroad and offer visa sponsorship/relocation support. Here are a few I’m aware of:
Procreate – https://procreate.com/careers
Optiver – https://optiver.com/working-at-optiver/career-opportunities
Pragmateam – https://pragma.team/join-us
At some point in the past, WiseTech Global was hiring software engineers from abroad for Sydney-based roles via my Relocate.me job board, but I’m not sure whether they are still hiring internationally.
Finally, there’s a dedicated GitHub repository listing Australian companies that provide work visa sponsorship: https://github.com/geshan/au-companies-providing-work-visa-sponsorship. It may not always be up to date, but it can still serve as a helpful starting point.
In addition, the Australian Department of Home Affairs releases Freedom of Information (FOI) lists of approved/accredited sponsors, showing which employers were eligible to sponsor skilled workers at a specific point in time. Latest available list (2025 release): https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/foi/files/2025/fa-250101229-document-released.PDF.
SEEK, Indeed, and LinkedIn are generally considered the “big three” job platforms in Australia, offering the widest range of listings and employer reach. Here are the links for quick access:
SEEK (Australia’s largest general job board) – https://www.seek.com.au
Indeed Australia (widely used for tech & non-tech roles) – https://au.indeed.com
LinkedIn – https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/search
For tech/startup jobs, I’d also suggest using Wellfound and the monthly “Who’s hiring?” thread on Hacker News (the latest one is here).
For example, a few months ago, Stile Education shared a post on Hacker News about open tech roles with visa and relocation support available.
And, of course, Glassdoor. While it’s not Australia-specific, there are consistently many roles listed for Australia, and you can filter results by posting date – which is especially useful when tracking new openings.
That’s it! If you know of any other helpful Australia-related resources worth adding to this list, please share them in the comments.
Best,
Andrew
