Where Zero-Server-Trust Encryption Works
Biometric unlock works on devices with built-in biometrics. The PRF extension is what lets us keep the encryption key entirely on your device with zero server trust. PRF support varies by browser, OS, and hardware. If your device exposes PRF, the option appears during setup. Manual passphrase entry still works everywhere as a fallback.
See the WebAuthn PRF docs on MDN for the latest compatibility details.
Browser extensions (including Bitwarden) do not currently expose PRF, so biometric unlock will not work inside extensions.
