Update 20/02/26 – 09:09 am (IST): Google has confirmed that it’s working on a fix for the problem. The acknowledgment was made on X, as well as a dedicated post on the community support forums. However, there’s no ETA for a fix.

Original article published on February 19, 2026, follows:

A nasty bug in Google Gemini seems to be wiping chat history for a growing number of users. Entire conversation lists in the sidebar are going blank, with months or even a year of past chats suddenly gone.

The complaints first surfaced on r/GoogleGeminiAI, where one user said roughly a year of chats disappeared without any warning. “All my chat history (about 1 year worth of chats) just disappeared. Like nothing!” Several others in the thread confirmed the same thing happened to them around the same time, which points to a server-side glitch rather than anything users did themselves.

Over on r/GeminiAI, another user flagged something useful. The left sidebar was empty, but past prompts were still showing up on Google’s My Activity page, on both Android and the web. The data appears to still be on Google’s servers — the app is just not loading it correctly.

If your Gemini chat history is missing, checking myactivity.google.com/product/gemini might help. It shows old prompts, but only one query at a time with no full conversation threads, so it’s not a great substitute when you’re trying to recover research or ongoing work.

The complaints are not limited to Reddit. A user on Google’s support forums posted that all chats vanished right in the middle of an active conversation, with research, code, and months of work stored across dozens of threads. Paid Gemini Pro and Business subscribers were caught up in this too. More reports are piling up here, here, here, and here.

Google One support reportedly told at least one user this is a known bug being actively fixed, and not a security issue. A few users also said their chats returned on their own after a couple of hours.

This keeps happening, though. Near-identical reports came in during November, September, and August last year. So if you can’t see your chats, don’t fret, they aren’t gone forever. However, you might have to wait until Google fixes the problem on their end for the chats to reappear.
