Counted server-side from the access log. No cookies, no third parties. Only browsers that run the page's script are counted, and anything identifying as a bot or a crawler is dropped, so scraper and link preview traffic never adds to it. Each browser keeps a random id in local storage so two devices on one WiFi count as two; the server holds only a salted hash of it, in memory for three minutes, never on disk.
