BMW, Ford, and Honda are forming a new US-based company called ChargeScape, focused on optimizing electric vehicle grid services.

Here are a few key points:

  • ChargeScape will create a platform to connect electric utilities, automakers, and EV customers to manage energy usage.

  • The company plans to leverage the Open Vehicle-Grid Integration Platform (OVGIP) to provide integration and enable electric utilities to access EV battery energy for various purposes. This includes encouraging EV customers to charge during off-peak hours and potentially share energy stored in their EVs with the grid during peak demand.

  • By leveraging automaker telematics, the company intends to offer managed charge scheduling without requiring Wi-Fi-enabled charging stations, making it accessible to a broader range of EV users.

This is interesting initiative that could eliminate certain marketing costs for the three automakers.
