We’re becoming Open Source Europe — and we want to build this with you - Open Source Europe

Hi everyone,

We have some news to share.

The nonprofit association Open Collective Europe is now becoming Open Source Europe, while the Open Collective Europe Foundation keeps its name and remains dedicated to humanitarian and solidarity initiatives. Two distinct legal entities, each serving a different purpose.

You can check out the new website here:

Why the change?

Over the past years, our focus has become clearer.

We want to help grow and strengthen the open source ecosystem in Europe and beyond — not just individual projects, but the wider space around them.

The new name reflects that more clearly.

"Open Collective Europe” was where we started.
Open Source Europe is where we’re going.

What changes?

  • Our name
  • Our visual identity
  • Our website

What doesn’t change?

  • Our commitment to transparency
  • The digital infrastructure we use
  • Our belief that open source should be sustainable and community-driven

All existing agreements and collaborations stay the same.

This is an open invitation

Open Source Europe is not just a name — it is an ecosystem.

We want this next chapter to be shaped collectively.

There are many ways to contribute:

  • Share feedback on our new positioning
  • Connect us with actors working on digital commons, public interest tech, or open governance
  • Contribute ideas to strengthen open source sustainability in Europe
  • Initiate collaborations across communities
  • Help document and share practices that make open source resilient

If you believe Europe needs stronger foundations for open source, we invite you to take part in this conversation.

We are building something long-term — open by design, and rooted in community.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

We look forward to shaping this next phase together.

 Warmly,

 JF
