The desktop app is already build with web technologies so you can expect the future web app to work almost identically, but the desktop app will always have better integration with your OS as it can take advantage of some APIs that are not available in the browser.
The web app will require paying for a subscription to use, as it will have built-in cloud synchronization and end-to-end encryption. If you don't need those features you can keep using the desktop app for free, where those features are opt-in.
