Until now, critics of vibe coding most came from the proramming community, who saw their profession disappearing overnight. But the CEO of one of the most advanced AI-assisted programming tools has just warned that we are building software on “shaky” foundations, suggesting it could induce dangerous complacency.
Vibe coding promises fluidity, speed and an almost magical experience: describe what you want and the code appears before your eyes. In its most extreme version, the developer simply accepts what the model generates “if it looks good” and passes some basic tests. As I’ve pointed out, it’s seductive, because it saves hard work and generates a constant sense of progress. But the price of this convenience is a progressive loss of understanding.
Initially, a developer will carefully review AI-generated code, and where necessary correct it. After that, fewer checks, and then none.
