We are not hiring because of the efficient tools, we are hiring despite them.

When I was in job search I had issue with finding the right jobs, when I want to hire people I have issues finding the right people. I am frustrated by the experience the tools, filters give me. I will try to annoy you more with few of the failures on both sides.

Since Hiring part is recent let me pour it out first !

We are hiring , We deliberated on the skills, expectation from the role, how the people fit to our culture, aspirations and vision and finally experience.posted the Jobs on Forums, Linkedin Jobs, Facebook etc., Professional and social networks appropriately, trying to match the active times of the targetted audience and repeating the posts to eliminate the short shelf life of the streams users get to see.

Applications started pouring in, Its Application Spam, 1-5% of the applicants read the JD first paragraph. 1–3% read 2 or more paragraphs, less than 1% accessed the company before applying. 0.5% have given a thought and context of the role. <I have no patience or clue why the hell I would spend time on people who apply without reading the JD,> Its broken because people stopped looking at JD, Job Portal as a communication medium. abusing the system and using their prowess only to throw a 2 page lottery at us.

We searched job portals, that threw the results even if they mentioned the skill we wanted to hire for is part of their kindergarten name. No weight on the recency, expertise , just text with no CONTEXT. <Fail>. No exception , all hiring tools fall in this bucket.

We hired agencies, some were too promising at the beginning, but as we progressed, they became dull and slow with expectations we set, some dropped, some didn’t show up. Some were fabricated, while some weren’t related. <Clueless>

Only thing that worked so far is referral, but its time consuming and depends on the network and diversity of the people you currently have in the organisation. <People Matter!>

Linkedin, I like the service, but I guess their search is too restrictive unless you want to subscribe for all the useful filters that are available only in the top tier.

There are few budding companies auctioning the candidates/candidates auctioning themselves without commitment to which ever organisation they received the offer from and registering to these so called services to bargain more. <I Don’t want people who won’t start relation without a commitment>

Wait, I haven’t even started expecting minor incremental improvements.just basic search that works and helps me find the right guys.

If you do all the background checks, You blessed me with 60% more productive time.

When I was looking for jobs, For all the reasons I mentioned above, no post seemed relevant. its a mess , I don’t want million mails from each portal offering job, I just need few I can choose from. I don’t like chaos, I need simple, effective, practical solution that helps me, not google in analysing all the mail traffic and send me some dumb ads. — its failure to find right job.

What Questions do you ask yourself before you get hired/ before you hire ?
