Google Sheets is becoming an increasingly popular alternative to Excel, and with that popularity comes an influx of new tools and techniques that allow users to do different things.
Excel has been the dominant player in the market for quite some time and already has a well established ecosystem of tools to choose from, but the popularity and ecosystem for Google Sheets is still building up:

One of the things that people need to do in spreadsheets is to import and export API data. You can think of an API as a data pipeline between two softwares. If someone wants to import API data into Excel, they can use Power Query. But what if someone wants to get API data in Google Sheets? Well, they can use Google Apps Script.
But learning how to use Power Query or Google Apps Script can be time consuming. That’s why using an API inGoogle Sheets is usually a technical process reserved for programmers, but in today’s world, we’re seeing new breakthroughs with “no-code tools”, which is software that allows non-technical people to do technical things.
One such no-code tool is Apipheny, which is a data analysis software that allows anyone to easily connect an API to Google Sheets. (Note: I’m the co-founder of Apipheny).
Today I’m going to show you how to use Apipheny to get API data into Google Sheets quickly and easily.
An example of how someone could use Apipheny is to get crypto prices from Coinmarketcap into Google Sheets or Youtube API to Google Sheets. Or someone may want to get their Facebook data into Google Sheets. They can do that by connecting the Facebook API with the Google Sheets API using the Apipheny software.
Almost every platform/software these days has an API, so you could technically connect almost any software to Google Sheets and get that software’s data into Google Sheets. Once you have your API information in your spreadsheet, you can create reports and dashboards and get analytics and insights for business intelligence.
So without further ado, let’s go over the 4 steps you need to take to connect an API to Google Sheets using the Apipheny software:
1. Install the Apipheny Google Sheets App
Apipheny is a Google Sheets add-on that you can install in the G Suite Marketplace. Click here to install Apipheny.

2. Once you have the app installed, open a new or existing Google Sheet
In the Google Sheet, click Add-ons > Apipheny > Import API
When you click “Import API”, you’ll see the Apipheny app open as a sidebar in the right side of your Google Sheet (screenshot below).
