It costs approximately $750.00 per doohickey to make a mobile app. Yes, a “doohickey” is a unit of measurement I made up. I use it to measure approximate app development costs. Synonyms include “thingamajig,” “doodad,” and “thingamabob.”
I came up with this unit of measurement the old fashioned way: exasperation. I had an idea for a mobile app, but I had no idea how to get it made. My coding knowledge was restricted to a little HTML, CSS, and PHP — just enough to fix a broken Wordpress theme.
A Google search for “get an app made” yielded confusing results. Many companies claimed to be able to make my app, but most of them wanted my phone number and app idea before they’d name their price.
Not having a patent, I didn’t want to share my app idea with strange app development companies. All I wanted was a general, ballpark figure. Could I afford to hire a company to make my app or not?
The few estimates I could find were all over the place. Developers on Fiverr and Upwork offered prices all the way from 40 to 150 dollars an hour, without specifying how many hours they’d need. App development…
