Critical-thinking app · Ages 10–14
Wrong on purpose. by design.
Your kid stops taking answers on trust. Errol is the math companion who's : find his bad step, explain why it breaks, earn detective rank. It's the one skill AI can't hand them.
Five steps. One detective. One sneaky robot.
Every challenge follows the same beat. Errol works the problem out loud, your kid watches for slip-ups, then breaks down what went wrong in their own words.
Step-by-step working, but one step is sneakily wrong.
Reads each step like a case file. No timer. No pressure.
Highlight the bad step. Confidence drops on Errol's face.
Explain what Errol got confused about, in their own words.
Errol reacts. Real solution shown side by side. Rank up.
In a world flooded with AI, the rare skill is knowing when it's lying.
Most learning apps reward the right answer. We reward the right question. Because your kid will hear a hundred plausible answers a day, from chatbots, classmates, and confident strangers. Spotting the broken one is the superpower.
Calibrated wrongness
Errors come in three tiers (Obvious, Sneaky, Expert) matched to age and skill. The sneakier the catch, the bigger the rank-up.
Always show the work
Every solution Errol attempts is shown step-by-step. Kids learn pattern-matching for bad reasoning, not just bad answers.
Explain in their own words
Submitting the catch isn't enough. Kids type a short explanation: the act that builds real understanding.
No grades. No leaderboard unless you switch it on.
Just rank. Rookie → Inspector → Detective → Sherlock. Earned by catches, not speed.
Made for the homework table. Not the algorithm.
Errol's confidence drops in real time. When your kid catches him, his face crumples. When they miss, he beams. Emotion is the hook.
Every solve becomes evidence. Past catches are replayable, annotatable, and shareable: proof your kid is building a real skill.
We don't sell to your kid. We don't profile your kid. One subscription, no dark patterns, COPPA-respecting from day one.

Things parents actually ask.
Everything parents want to know before getting started.
What age is Lathoa for?+
Built for kids 10–14. The case difficulty adapts: younger kids get one-step number checks, older kids get multi-step word problems where Errol's mistake is buried three lines down. It works equally well at the homework table or on a tablet in the back seat.
How is this different from a tutor or Khan Academy?+
Tutors and Khan teach kids to get the right answer. Lathoa teaches kids to spot a wrong one: the skill they'll need every time they ask an AI for help. They're complementary, not competing.
Is this safe for my kid? What about AI safety?+
Errol is powered by AI, but every problem goes through a separate verification step before your kid sees it. If the AI tries to claim 2+2=5, verification catches it; if Errol's 'wrong answer' isn't actually wrong, we discard it and try again. So you get the variety of generated content with the safety of verified math. There's no open-ended chat. Kids interact with structured cases; they don't talk to a model.
What subjects are covered?+
Math today: arithmetic, fractions, ratios, pre-algebra, early geometry, all aligned to Common Core 4–8. Reading comprehension and basic logic are next on the roadmap, with science to follow.
Can I cancel anytime?+
Yes. Cancel anytime from the billing portal, no phone call or email gauntlet. The 7-day trial every new account gets needs no card, so there is nothing to cancel when it ends. Monthly plans cancel at the end of the cycle and you keep access until then.
Does my kid need their own device?+
No. Lathoa runs in any browser, on iOS, and on Android. The Family plan supports up to 4 profiles on one account, so siblings can share an iPad and the app remembers who's who from a 4-digit PIN.
