They are no longer linking so no need to "invest" in something they are not using. Politicians and the continual unintended consequences of their legislation.

I'm no fan of META, but am completely against anything this clown Trudeau stands for.

If you support Trudeau then you support the destruction of Canada. So keep that in mind as you're smashing the down vote button.

Sorry to go against the tide here but he has a valid point. First off, I am not Canadian so this doesn't directly affect me. But I see the point. I often find articles that would be interesting to read hidden behind a paywall. So I type the title of the article in my browser and can usually find the very same article on something like Yahoo, DNyuz or some other news aggregation site. You get around the pay wall but by doing so are cheating the originator out of revenue they would earn if, like me, you were not so cheap and bought a subscription. I am guilty as charged but I get what the Canadians and Australians are trying to do. It is not all a grand plot and he is emphatically not incompetent to pursue this.

They should turn that whole issue upside down, that guy and other wokies should pay if they want to have their news published on a big scale with those global providers. It's surely not normal when the short tail tries to shake the whole dog.

The current government of Canada is one of the most corrupt the country has ever seen. None of the legacy media organizations are truly independent - they all receive federal funding.
Now Trudeau and his cronies want to cash in from tech giants flush with cash and use this new source of funding to further exert control over Canadian media. At the same time, laws are introduced that make life difficult for independent online news organizations. It's a very unhealthy situation.

I'm with the government as well here. Meta 's reaction to the legislation should tell all you need to know whose side you should be on. It seemed to me to be along the lines of "Who do you think you are? You need me to survive! I'll do as I please and squash you like a bug!"

I don't need Meta to obtain a subscription to the New York Times, Straits Times (Singapore), LA Times, Jerusalem Post, Reuters, ect. I can buy a subscription directly from anywhere in the world. They were global new sites long before Meta came along. But Meta steals articles from them you would otherwise have to pay to view and posts them to Meta users for free, undercutting the very media outlet that provides this news.
