Information about our paid subscription plan, Pro.

Note: As of September 10, 2026, we’re temporarily pausing new sign-ups and upgrades to the ChatGPT Pro $200 plan (Pro 20X). This includes sign-ups and upgrades from Free, Go, Plus, or Pro $100. Existing ChatGPT Pro $200 subscriptions and new or existing ChatGPT Pro $100 subscriptions are not affected by this pause.

If you cancel or schedule a downgrade, you keep Pro $200 until the end of your current billing cycle and can undo the change in billing settings before the cycle ends. After your Pro $200 access ends, you may qualify for a one-time return during the pause. See “Can I resubscribe to Pro $200 after my subscription ends?” for eligibility and instructions. If you are not eligible, you cannot purchase Pro $200 until the pause is lifted.

Read the Pro $200 pause FAQ for more information on how the pause may affect your subscription.

Overview

ChatGPT Pro is designed for people who rely on AI to get high-stakes, complex work done.

All Pro tiers include access to advanced features, including:

  • Pro models

  • Codex

  • Deep research

  • Image creation

  • Memory

  • File uploads

Access and usage allowances

The ChatGPT Pro plan includes access to GPT-5 and legacy models. Some models have separate usage allowances. Usage must also adhere to our Terms of Use, which prohibits, among other things:

  • Abusive usage, such as automatically or programmatically extracting data.

  • Sharing your account credentials or making your account available to anyone else.

  • Reselling access or using ChatGPT to power third-party services.

OpenAI uses guardrails to help prevent misuse. These guardrails may occasionally result in a temporary usage restriction. ChatGPT will notify you if this happens. If you believe a restriction was applied by mistake, contact OpenAI Support through the chat widget at help.openai.com. If OpenAI does not find policy-violating behavior, access will be restored.

Pro $200 (Pro 20x) new subscription pause FAQ

Can I upgrade to the Pro $100 or Pro $200 plan during the pause?

You can upgrade to Pro $100 from the Pricing page or from Settings → My Plan. New subscriptions and upgrades to Pro $200 remain paused, except for eligible customers using the one-time return. This exception can apply if you are currently on Free, Go, Plus, or Pro $100. See “Can I resubscribe to Pro $200 after my subscription ends?” for eligibility and instructions.

When you upgrade to Pro $100, the new usage limits and capabilities apply immediately.

Is my existing Pro $200 subscription affected?

No. Existing Pro $200 subscriptions continue to renew as usual. Pro $200 remains the highest usage tier, and the Pro $100 plan remains available for people who want Pro capabilities with lower usage.

Can I resubscribe to Pro $200 after my subscription ends?

Eligible customers can return to Pro $200 (Pro 20x) once during the subscription pause. The return option is available for 30 days after your Pro $200 access ends, including after a cancellation, failed renewal payment, or downgrade.

This option is available to customers who had Pro $200 access on September 10, 2026, or whose access ended in the 30 days before that date. You must not have already used your one-time return.

To return, sign in to the same account and go to chatgpt.com/pricing. If you’re eligible, you’ll be able to select and purchase Pro $200. Returning starts a paid Pro $200 subscription.

What happens if my Pro $200 renewal payment fails?

If you subscribe through chatgpt.com and your renewal payment fails, we'll send you an email to the address associated with the account with information on options you have to renew the account. If your subscription is canceled and your Pro $200 access ends, you may qualify for a one-time return. See “Can I resubscribe to Pro $200 after my subscription ends?” for eligibility and instructions. If you are not eligible, you cannot purchase Pro $200 until the pause is lifted. If you subscribe through Apple or Google Play, follow your app store’s payment-recovery instructions.

Can I change between the Pro $100 and Pro $200 tiers during the pause?

If you schedule a downgrade from Pro $200 to Pro $100, the change takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle. You keep Pro $200 until then and can undo the downgrade in billing settings before the cycle ends. After the downgrade takes effect, you may qualify for a one-time return to Pro $200. See “Can I resubscribe to Pro $200 after my subscription ends?” for eligibility and instructions. If you are not eligible, you cannot upgrade to Pro $200 until the pause is lifted.

What happens if I canceled my Pro $200 subscription before or during the pause?

If a cancellation is scheduled but your Pro $200 subscription is still active, you keep Pro $200 until the end of your current billing cycle and can undo the cancellation in billing settings before the cycle ends. This applies whether you scheduled the cancellation before or during the pause. Once the cancellation takes effect and your Pro $200 access ends, you may qualify for a one-time return. See “Can I resubscribe to Pro $200 after my subscription ends?” for eligibility and instructions. If you are not eligible, you cannot purchase Pro $200 until the pause is lifted.

Can I keep Pro $200 if I join a ChatGPT Business workspace?

Yes. Your personal Pro subscription and Business workspace subscription are independent, so joining a Business workspace does not require you to cancel Pro $200. If you cancel your personal Pro $200 subscription, the standard cancellation rules above apply.

What happens if my Pro $200 subscription is refunded?

If a refund also cancels your Pro $200 subscription, your access ends immediately and your account moves to Free. After your Pro $200 access ends, you may qualify for a one-time return. See “Can I resubscribe to Pro $200 after my subscription ends?” for eligibility and instructions. If you are not eligible, you cannot purchase Pro $200 until the pause is lifted.

What happens if claiming a promotion changes my Pro $200 subscription?

Review the promotion’s terms before you claim it. If an offer ends your Pro $200 access or changes your plan, you may qualify for a one-time return to Pro $200. See “Can I resubscribe to Pro $200 after my subscription ends?” for eligibility and instructions. If you are not eligible, you cannot switch back until the pause is lifted.

Can I use a Pro $200 promotion during the pause?

No. New Pro $200 promo redemptions are paused. If you already redeemed a Pro $200 promotion and your subscription is active, it is unaffected. Promotions for usage credits are separate and remain subject to their own eligibility and redemption terms.

General FAQ

What’s the difference between the two Pro tiers?

Both Pro tiers include the same core capabilities. The main difference is usage allowance: Pro $100 unlocks 5x higher usage than Plus, while Pro $200 unlocks 20x usage than Plus.

Can I cancel or change my plan anytime?

Yes. You can change or cancel your subscription anytime from Settings → My Plan. If you upgrade to an available plan, your new plan takes effect immediately and your billing cycle starts over. If you move to a lower tier, the change takes effect at your next renewal and you keep your current plan until then. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of your billing period, and your plan will not renew. If you currently have Pro $200, read the Pro $200 pause FAQ in this article before you change or cancel your plan.

Is there an annual plan available?

Currently, we do not support annual billing or the option to pay for multiple months in advance for ChatGPT Go, Plus, or Pro subscriptions.

Why is a model temporarily unavailable on ChatGPT Pro?

Some models have separate usage allowances on ChatGPT Pro, and allowances can differ by Pro tier. The $100 Pro tier includes lower usage allowances than the $200 Pro tier.

When you reach a model's allowance, that model may be temporarily unavailable until the allowance resets. ChatGPT displays the reset time when available.

Reaching a model's allowance does not by itself mean that your account was restricted or that your subscription ended. You can use another available model or wait until the displayed reset time. There is no setting to increase or bypass a model's usage allowance.

If the model remains unavailable after the displayed reset time, contact OpenAI Support through the chat widget at

help.openai.com

.

Can Support reset my usage limits?

No. OpenAI Support does not reset ChatGPT or Codex usage limits. If you reach a limit, wait until it resets or use another available option shown in your account.

If you believe your usage was counted incorrectly, or access has not returned after the stated reset time, contact Support so we can investigate.
