The information in this article applies to all Dropbox users.
You can connect Dropbox to Claude to bring Dropbox content into Claude conversations, save Claude-generated text to Dropbox, and use supported Dropbox features without leaving Claude.
Dropbox for Claude includes two experiences:
- The Dropbox connector for claude.ai and Claude desktop
- The Dropbox plugin for Claude Cowork and Claude Code
Requirements
To connect Dropbox to Claude:
- Active account: You need an active Dropbox account that you can sign in to from Claude.
- Authorization: You must authorize Dropbox when prompted in Claude. Learn more about requested permissions.
- Admin approval: The Dropbox app or plugin for Claude must be allowed for your organization. Learn more about admin approval.
Integration features
After you connect Dropbox to Claude, you can use Claude to:
- Find files and folders in Dropbox.
- Check details about supported Dropbox files.
- Organize Dropbox folders and content.
- Create Dropbox links for files and folders.
- Create file requests to collect files from other people.
- Save text that Claude generates to Dropbox.
Permissions
When you connect Dropbox to Claude, you may be asked to sign in to Dropbox and allow access to Dropbox features.
- View your account information: This permission lets Claude access basic Dropbox account details needed to connect your account.
- View your files and folders: This permission lets Claude find files and folders, check file details, and bring supported Dropbox content into Claude conversations.
- Edit your files and folders: This permission lets Claude save Claude-generated text to Dropbox and organize Dropbox content when you ask it to.
- View sharing information: This permission lets Claude check sharing details for files and folders you already have access to.
- Edit sharing information: This permission lets Claude create Dropbox links for files and folders you already have access to.
- View file requests: This permission lets Claude find and check details about file requests.
- Edit file requests: This permission lets Claude create file requests to collect files from other people.
Note: Dropbox always respects your existing file permissions and admin controls. Claude can only access content and complete actions that you already have permission to use in Dropbox.
Connect the Dropbox connector
You only need to connect Dropbox once. After setup, Dropbox is available in Claude.ai, the Claude desktop app, Claude Cowork, and Claude Code.
In Claude.ai
- Log in to claude.ai.
- Click ☑ (add) in the search bar.
- Click Add connectors.
- Click ☑ (add) next to Dropbox.
- Log in to your Dropbox account.
- Review the permissions prompt, then click Continue.
After setup is complete, you can use Dropbox features in claude.ai, Claude Cowork, and Claude Code.
In the Claude desktop app
You can connect Dropbox from the Chat, Cowork, or Code tab.
- Open the Claude desktop app.
- In the left sidebar, click Chat, Cowork, or Code.
- Click Customize, then Connectors.
- Click Add, then Browse connectors.
- Search for Dropbox.
- Click ☑ (add) next to Dropbox.
- Log in to your Dropbox account.
- Review the permissions prompt, then click Continue.
Install the Dropbox plugin
In Claude.ai
- Log in to claude.ai.
- Click Browse plugins.
- Click ☑ (add) next to Dropbox.
- Complete the Dropbox authorization process if prompted.
Dropbox should now be available in Claude.
In the Claude desktop app
- Open the Claude desktop app.
- In the left sidebar, click Chat, Cowork, or Code.
- Click Customize, then Plugins.
- Click Add.
- Search for Dropbox.
- Click ☑ (add) next to Dropbox.
- Complete the Dropbox authorization process if prompted.
Dropbox should now be available in Claude.
Admins: Manage Dropbox in Claude
Admins can allow or block the Dropbox connector and plugin in Claude.
Note: The Dropbox connector and Dropbox plugin require Claude admin enablement.
To allow the Dropbox connector
- Log in to claude.ai.
- Click your profile icon in the bottom-left corner.
- Select Organizational Settings.
- In the left sidebar, select Connectors.
- Click Add+ at the top.
- Save your changes.
After you allow the connector, team members in your organization can connect Dropbox to claude.ai if they have an active Dropbox account and the required permissions.
To block the Dropbox connector
- Log in to claude.ai.
- Click your profile icon in the bottom-left corner.
- Select Organizational Settings.
- In the left sidebar, select Connectors.
- Find the Dropbox connector.
- Click ☑ (more options).
- Click Delete.
After you block the connector, team members in your organization can no longer connect Dropbox to claude.ai.
To manage the Dropbox plugin
- Log in to claude.ai.
- Click your profile icon in the bottom-left corner.
- Select Organizational Settings.
- In the left sidebar, select Plugins.
- Find Dropbox.
- Click ☑ (more options) next to Dropbox.
- Select one of these options:
- Not available
- Installed by Default
- Available to Install
- Required
- Save your changes.
After you change the setting, team members in your organization will have the access level you selected.

What can I do with Dropbox in Claude?
You can use Claude to find files and folders, check details about supported Dropbox files, organize content, create share links, create file requests, and save text-based output to Dropbox.
Does Dropbox override my sharing or file permissions in Claude?
No. Dropbox always respects your existing permissions and admin controls.
How can I share content from Claude?
You can create a shared link and send it to others. Recipients must request access before they can view the content.
Why do shared links require approval?
Requiring approval is an added security measure that helps protect your content and gives you control over who can view what you've shared.
Why can't I connect Dropbox to Claude?
If you can't connect Dropbox to Claude, try these checks:
- Make sure you're signing in to the correct Dropbox account.
- Check whether your admin has blocked the Dropbox app or plugin for Claude.
- Confirm that the Claude experience you're using supports Dropbox.
Why can't Claude access a file I can view in Dropbox?
If Claude can't access a file, make sure the file is available to the Dropbox account you connected and that the file type is supported in the Claude experience you're using.
Can I save images or PDFs that Claude generates directly to Dropbox?
No. Claude-generated content can currently only be saved as text-based file types, such as .txt, .md, .html, and .py. Claude-generated content can't be saved as binary file types, such as images or PDFs.
Can admins block Dropbox in Claude for their organization?
Yes. Admins can block the Dropbox app and plugin for Claude for their organization.
Do I need to connect the Dropbox connector separately for Claude.ai, Claude Coworker, and Claude Code?
No. You only need to connect the Dropbox connector once. When you authorize the Dropbox connector, that connection is available across Claude experiences that support connectors, including Claude.ai, Claude Coworker, and Claude Code.
