Hey bunqers 🌈,

If you live in the Netherlands, you’ve probably used iDEAL. For years, iDEAL has been the go-to for speedy, secure, and super simple payments.

Starting in January 2026, iDEAL began its transition to Wero, a new European payment solution backed by leading EU banks. This means you'll see the new yellow Wero logo pop up next to iDEAL in your bunq app. We’ll explain why this is happening and what you can expect from this change below 👇

What’s Wero?

With a different way to pay in every European country, cross-border payments can get complicated, fast. To make your life easy, across Europe, iDEAL is evolving into Wero. It’s built on iDEAL’s foundation, so you won't lose a single feature you're used to, and have more new features to look forward to.

Wero is governed by 14 European banks and financial institutions — including the founders of iDEAL, so your payments will have the same level of security you're used to.

How does this change affect my payments?

The quality and security of your payments won't change as iDEAL becomes Wero. The transition will happen in a few stages:

  1. Starting in early 2026, you'll see the Wero logo next to iDEAL. You can keep using iDEAL as usual; nothing will change for you yet.

  2. Towards the end of 2026, the iDEAL logo will start to fade out as Wero takes its place. We’ll give you a heads-up when your payments officially switch over, unlocking cross-border payments and all the cool new features supported by Wero.

  3. By the end of 2027, Wero will fully replace iDEAL. You’ll be all set for the future of easy European payments.

Which new features will be available with Wero?

Wero is a European payment solution. Over the course of 2026 and 2027, Wero will introduce new features which will let you pay as easily and securely in other European countries as you do at home.

We’ll be updating this page with more information as the transition to Wero progresses and more cool, new features become available. To learn more about Wero, visit the official Wero website
